The nihilistic internal wounds of a fading loneliness are presented loud and clear in clipping.’s new single ‘Baby Don’t Sleep’. These inner scratchings are an unwanted point of focus as Daveed Diggs’ highlights that “you can’t shake what you’ve done/no matter how far you outrun it”. Such conflict is reflected in the above image, as the camera loses its focus into the fine details which result in a blurred identity where “nothing is familiar” – a brutal oxymoron which clipping. punctuates.

This fuzzy alienation is not only present within Diggs’ lyrics, but within the familiar ruthless production of the LA experimental outfit – consisting of feedback and static noise which lack any pulse. These sounds are much like the photo’s incredibly messy and illegible attempt at graffiti. However, unlike the petty humans who scratch elevator doors at Southern Cross Station, clipping. somehow make a piece of art out of the mess they create.

In saying that, this new single warns us not look to hard for the meaning within all this clutter – as being “delusional is easier than self examination”.

‘Baby Don’t Sleep’ is a single within clipping.’s upcoming record ‘Splendor and Misery’ out September 9. Listen below:
